Seamless systems integration for a household name
Brewers is the UK’s largest independent decorator’s merchant, providing specialist painting and decorating equipment and tools to trade, domestic and industrial customers. The company has more than 150 branches across the South, Midlands and North West. Its main website is essentially an online catalogue, with no e-commerce functions: however, the company does have specialist divisions – Wallpaperdirect, Designerpaint and Brewers Home – offering online ordering and click-and-collect services.
Brewers asked us to develop a fast, reliable communications network that could seamlessly connect its stores, online divisions and head office. It also needed the flexibility to support future online expansion, including secure card payments from a new in-store point-of-sale system. Above all, Brewers wanted a solution that was scalable, easy to deploy and simple for its relatively small IT team to manage centrally.
We began by specifying and installing an enterprise-grade WiFi network across the company’s head office and 150+ branches. With this completed, we carried out a major refresh of its WAN, adding a highly secure, fully PCI-compliant VPN overlay, to manage payment data transmissions between retail branches, head office and payment providers. This new hybrid infrastructure has reduced WAN costs, while simplifying and improving WAN traffic and device management. Together with the new WiFi network, it’s given Brewers the flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing market conditions, and enables the IT team to respond quickly and easily to future demands.
“Focus Integration act as a seamless extension of our team – and they’ve been invaluable in enabling us to make more intelligent decisions and make our future vision a reality.”
– James Cawthorne, IT Operations Manager, Brewers
