SUEZ's data centre environment delivers powerful disaster avoidance capabilities – and more
Featuring impressive connectivity, elastic scalability and exceptional performance, SUEZ’s next-generation data centre infrastructure provides the foundational flexibility needed to cope with escalating business demands and around-the-clock business continuity.
New network boosts performance, flexibility, reliability – and green credentials
SUEZ is one of Britain’s largest recycling and resource management companies, serving 12 million residential and 40,000 business customers from over 300 sites and facilities nationwide.
As a fast-evolving business, SUEZ needs to be certain its data centre and network infrastructures can scale and adjust to changing needs. A major refurbishment of its head offices in Maidenhead presented the ideal opportunity to rethink the enterprise infrastructure.
We were appointed to take on the complex phased re-platforming programme. The project involved moving the on-site data centre to SUEZ’s co-location partner and implementing Nexus 9000 switches at both data centres, before the final migration to the active-active environment. As part of the migration, we designed, configured and deployed VLANs at both sites. Thanks to meticulous planning, the migration programme was completed with zero outages.
SUEZ now has a future-proofed 100-gig network designed for hyper-converged infrastructures, which handles storage traffic with ease and optimises application performance. It means that, in future, the company can add capacity, move resources and incorporate new technology platforms, cloud services and additional converged infrastructures as needed.
The compact dimensions of the Nexus 9000 series also reduces rack space by 50% in both data centres, delivering considerable cost savings, and reducing cabling and other infrastructure. Togetehr with virtualised networking, this has reduced the company’s carbon footprint considerably, and reduced power consumption tenfold – a major CSR boon for a company operating in recycling and waste management.
“Working with Focus Integration was a highly consultative, iterative process – it enabled us to test concepts with technical experts and refine the approach we took. They understood our vision, and their technical know-how is seriously impressive – that’s why we selected them as our strategic partner for the design and specification of the new data centre environment.”
